New Year’s Resolutions

This is a guest post by Monique Jones, owner/webmaster of Moniqueblog an alternative entertainment site focusing on how movies, comics, and cartoons can teach tolerance and acceptance of others.

Happy 2011! I think it’s safe for me to say that we all view the coming of each new year as a new beginning. For some, it’s time to lose weight. For others, it’s time to take a close look at their spiritual lives. For others, the new year is simply a brand new opportunity for good things to happen.

As a new college graduate, I’m looking towards 2011 for all of the above reasons, but I’m also looking for the gift of prosperity. Every new year brings mountains of potential and promise, and this year, I’m planning on milking that potential for all it’s worth.

Also, I wish 2011 could bring about more peace and understanding in people. People wish this every year, it’s true, but now that I’m getting older and becoming a bigger part of the world, I see that this wish becomes all the more desperate and meaningful. I hope that I can bring about some of the peace and understand I desire through my own actions, and hopefully, other people will do the same.

Finally, I wish for everyone to simply relax more in 2011. The 24-7 news cycle has created in us a false sense of reality. There aren’t terrorist plots around every corner, nor are there crimes happening everywhere all of the time. And with our collective dependence on stimulating products such as coffee, pills, and Red Bull, along with our idea that being constantly on-the-go is equal to being productive, many people (sometimes myself included) forget what it’s like simply to stop and chill for a minute. Relaxation is important for mental and physical health, and it is something we all need to remember.

What do you wish for this year?

Great advice.

I’d like to recommand a goal setting tool at http://www.GoalsOnTrack.com, a very nicely built web app designed for tracking goals and todo lists, and supports time tracking too. It’s clear, focused, easy to navigate, worth a try.
